A scarce Victorian Military Forces Officers Blue Cloth Helmet C 1880-93 complete with “double wreath” helmet plate. Plate not original to the helmet but may have been changed from the single wreath. I have not had the maker before, being T. WHITE & CO Union St. Aldershot. Silk liner complete and still attached to buff leather liner.

Militia Artillery Officer’s Blue Cloth Helmet c. 1902-08, a fine quality example the blue cloth skull complete with all gilt metal fittings, the very fine frontal plate of Royal Arms pattern, a blank scroll above a double wheeled cannon and scroll below ‘Quo Fas Et Gloria Ducunt’, original buff leather sweatband and supplier’s details ‘Sullivan Williams & Aitchison, 12a, Savile Row, W’, the plate is original to the helmet.
Slight loss of gilt to the ball finial otherwise very fine overall condition $1350
The Suffolk Regiment, Officer’s Blue Cloth Helmet c1883-1902, the blue cloth skull complete with all gilt metal fittings, the very fine frontal plate of crowned eight pointed star pattern with gilt laurel and Garter overlays, in the centre on a ground of black velvet a three towered Gibraltar Castle and dependent Key, a silver scroll below ‘The Suffolk Regiment’, original buff leather sweatband and crimson silk lining (partly separated but all there) by ‘Hawkes & Co., London’, the plate is original to the helmet.

Northern Division Militia Artillery Officer’s Blue Cloth Helmet c. 1890-1902, a good quality example the blue cloth skull complete with all gilt metal fittings, the very fine frontal plate of Royal Arms pattern with laurel top scroll, double wheel cannon and bottom scroll ‘Northern Division’, buff leather sweatband with attached white silk lining (part perished) and quilted white silk skull lining (part perished), the plate is original to the helmet.

A rare round front peak of the 1879-1881 pattern, the skull complete with silvered mounts, the frontal plate crowned with laurel and Garter overlays, to the centre Sphinx/Egypt on black velvet ground, below title ‘The Lincolnshire Regiment’ with drop scroll ‘1st Volunteer Battalion’, helmet plate original to helmet, velvet backed chin chain, inner leather sweatband with crimson silk lining, embossed Joseph Ascher 428 Strand London,

A 45th (Sherwood Foresters) Regiment of Foot Officer’s 1869-78 Pattern Shako.
A good example, the stiffened blue cloth cork body with correct officers gold lace decoration, gilt metal chain and side rosettes, the frontal plate crowned laurel and Garter pattern, with stippled pierced ’45’ to the centre, complete with correct pattern gilt plume holder with white over red plume, complete with original carrying tin.
Minor moth nips, crimson lining torn in places, overall good condition $2250
A Victorian Blue Cloth Helmet, Tunic with belt and trousers to Lieutenant Colonel Sapwell circa 1880 who was CO of the 3rd NORFOLK Volunteer Rifles. The tunic is named and has all its buttons and quality collar badges (silver?) and rank insignia. Minor blemishes to be expected but overall, a nice display item.

A circa 1878 Volunteer Rifle Shako. Strong body to helmet with few scuffs. All fittings in white metal including lion boss at rear. Repair to velvet backing on chin chain and internal anchor plate to stop original tuft ball and holder from moving is missing. Helmet plate possibly not original to helmet due to extra holes. This Shako was purchased in Australia and could have been used here.

A rather nice White Cloth Helmet Circa 1890 by Hawkes. Typical six panel with square back. The body is firm with tight puggaree. Silk still attached to the leather sweat band. Chin chain and spike in brass.

58th (Rutlandshire) Regiment Junior Officer’s 1855 Pattern Shako, an extremely fine and rare example, the black beaver covered body with sunken patent leather top bracing band front and rear peaks and chin strap, the very fine frontal plate of gilt crowned star pattern with pierced Garter overlay this with ‘mirror back’ gilt slip and central gilt numerals ‘58’ on a black patent leather ground, the buff leather sweatband with attached crimson silk lining, the plate is original to the shako, the white over red wool correct size ball plume is original, with the pierced gilt ‘cut ball’ gilt holder.
Some minor blemishes otherwise in excellent condition. $3500

For conspicuous gallantry and initiative in an attack. He directed the fire of his trench mortars into a nest of machine guns which were checking the advance of the Infantry.
He the rushed forward armed with a revolver and by his coolness and courage caused the enemy to surrender, thereby capturing TWO MACHINE GUNS AND FORTY-TWO PRISONERS.
