Alexander Mackie served with the 177th (Fincastle’s Horse) Company, 31st Battalion, Imperial Yeomanry during the Second Boer War. He served during the Great War with the 4th South African Infantry in the French theatre of war from July 1917 (entitled to Silver War Badge). Mackie resided with his wife at 95 Durham Avenue, Salt River, Cape Town.

Note: Alfred James Sharp was born in Millbrook, Southampton. He joined the Royal Artillery on 6 July 1882, aged 19 years. He initially served in the 1st Brigade Scottish Division R.A., which later became Mountain Artillery. Served in India, September 1883-February 1890 and took part in the Black Mountain Expedition 1888. Sharp was transferred to the Army Reserve in February 1890 and discharged on 5 July 1894. His intended place of residence being given as King Street, Brynmawr. He later joined the Royal Monmouthshire Engineers Militia and served with them in the Second Boer War. With copied R.A. service papers and roll extracts on paper and C.D.

Note: Harry Laughton Fuller was born in Witton Park, Co. Durham on 5 March 1873. A Labourer by occupation and a member of the 1st Durham Light Infantry Volunteers and a former member of the 3rd Battalion Yorkshire Light Infantry, he attested for the Royal Marines at Portsmouth on 16 October 1892. Latterly serving in South Africa, he was discharged by purchase from the Marines in August 1900. Fuller then enlisted into Brabant’s Horse at Cape Town on 14 November 1900 and was discharged time expired in November 1901. He then enlisted into the Imperial Light Horse at Cape Town in December 1901, being discharged in June 1902. For his services he was awarded the Queen’s medal with no clasp as a Private in the Royal Marines on H.M.S. Monarch (not with lot) and the Queen’s medal with five clasps as a Trooper in the Regiments of Horse. At the time of the Great War he was employed as an Iron Moulder living in London, Ontario. He attested for the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force at London on 13 September 1915 and was posted to the Canadian Engineers.

Henry Hibberd was born in Tisbury, Wiltshire. A Labourer by occupation and a member of the 3rd Battalion Wiltshire Regiment, he attested for regular service on 9 March 1885, aged 19 years. With them he served in India, March 1886-November 1892. Transferred to the Army Reserve in December 1892, he was recalled to the Colours in January 1900. With the 2nd Battalion he served in South Africa, March 1900-April 1902, being slightly wounded in action at Slabberts Nek on 23 July 1900. With copied service papers.
