17th (Duke of Cambridge’s Own) Lancers Officer’s Full Dress Schapska c.1912.
A fine quality example, the black patent leather skull complete with all gold lace braiding, white cloth covered sides and trencher top, the top with crossed gold orris cord, the very fine frontal plate in gilt with silver overlays (uncleaned) these include ‘Seventeenth Lancers’ regimental title and battle honours to ‘South Africa 1900-02’, gold wire rosette with ‘GR’ cypher on blue velvet, correct pattern side ornaments and lined chin chain, correct white horse hair plume with good gilt officers plume holder, wide buff leather sweat band is in very good condition but minus silk attached lining. Silk lining to inside crown of mortar board shows maker in gilt as Hamburger, Rogers & Co.

A good quality die stamped example of standard pattern with Battle Honours for the Crimea only. with two screw posts and two stitching holes near bottom points. Good condition.

1822 Pattern Infantry Officers Sword. Blade by H. Hart, Pall Mall, London etched with the crowned "VR" cypher and scrolling foliate panels, standard gilt brass gothic hilt incorporating the crowned "VR" cypher, wire bound fish skin grip in its field rank brass scabbard, complete with a continental gold lace and bullion sword knot.

1822 Pattern Rifle Officer’s Presentation Sword to Captain H.G. Sutton 40th Lancashire (3rd Manchester) Volunteer Corps, the 81.5 cm blade with single fuller by J. & W. Wood, King St., Manchester is etched overall with scrolling foliage crowned VR cypher strung bugle horn and presentation panels ‘Presented To Captain H.G. Sutton By The Members of No. 8 Company 40th L.R. Volunteers On His Promotion As A Token Of Their Most Sincere Regard 28th Day Of February 1874’, on the reverse a further etched section ‘40th Lancashire Rifle Voltrs.’, the exceptionally ornate pierced hand guard features a crowned strung bugle horn foliate panels side panels of Union sprays wire bound fish skin grip with back strap of ornate oak sprays contained in its plated scabbard this with three highly decorative panels, the sword in overall excellent condition, the scabbard similar but with one very minor dent
Note: Sold with a considerable amount of research concerning Sutton’s career. In brief he was a self-made man being called to the Bar in January 1876 and was promoted to Lieut. Col. in 1876 but resigned his commission in 1879 although only 36 yrs old. This was possibly due to what was then considered a disgrace being in debt regarding a mortgage.

1831 Pattern General Officers Mameluke Hilted Sabre. A Victorian period example, unfullered blade with clip and pipe back point by Thurkle of Soho London etched with crowned "VR" cypher crossed sword and baton crossed laurel and palm sprays and other scrolling foliage, brass mounted hilt with crossguard, this with foliate ecussian incorporating crossed sword and baton within laurels, two piece ivory grip in its brass scabbard complete with gold and crimson lace sword knot, the blade retains the majority of original polish.
Very good condition overall SOLD
