BOER WAR DIARY & EPHEMERA
A very rare collection of Ephemera including a portrait of Lieut. W. R. Finlayson M.C. 21 Bn AIF, 2 official papers relating to his discharge (3MD). A WW1 recommendation he had written for 6840 Pte. R. J. Knight (subsequently awarded), A 1918 officers photo signed by all 10 officers. 3 small portrait photos in uniform, plus a short but very interesting Diary in which he served with the 3rd Bushmans Contingent (Victorian) under Major Vialls (W.A.) of whom he speaks very highly. This is the first Boer War Diary to an Australian we have ever owned.
Important note: Lieut Finlayson was one of the 133 soldiers reccommended for the Victoria Cross in the First World War

At the time of listing these medals Claude Parker’s service records were still sealed. The following was taken from TANK TRACKS The history of the 2/4th Australian Armoured (unit history);
Chapter: South Bougainville
“Two days later a jeep moving up to a forward company was ambushed, the crews went to ground and Tprs “Happy” Cole and Claude Parker moved forward with an infanteer to clear the ambush. Claude Parker was badley wounded in the right thigh”

BREASTPLATE, Early 16th century possibly German approx. 20 inches high. Roped border at neck and cod. Four articulated panels attached to main plate, complete with buckles.
Good overall condition SOLD
A rare example in die-stamped brass, of original curved shape (approx. 195mm x 90mm). The plate displays the full Arms of Great Britain post 1837. In use on the 1834 and 1843 pattern helmets by the following regiments, 2nd, 4th, 5th, and 6th Dragoon Guards and the 1st Dragoons, small perforations through wear in a few places and one ray-tip fastening element missing, otherwise good condition for age.

British Officers red tunic to the 30th Regiment, White facings and bullion insignia for a captain, gilt buttons with Victorian crown over 30 (Cambridgeshire). Making this an early tunic prior to becoming the East Lancashire Regiment.
A few snail trails otherwise good condition SOLD
CABASSET late 16th century. Typical form with short spike comb. One lining rivet missing at rear. What is particularly nice about this helmet is that it retains a single original ear flap with small part of liner (see photo). These ear flaps are never seen on these helmets.
